Kinetic

The music and imagery for Kinetic were first imagined in tropical Ghana, West Africa. Joe Sheehan, Kinetic's pianist and composer, spent six months studying traditional music and dance there, channeling this experience into original songs inspired by traditional and popular West African musics, jazz, and R&B. The show at the Pittsburgh Winery will present and celebrate the release of Kinetic's debut album, World of Wonder
Kinetic is comprised of Anqwenique Wingfield on vocals, special guest Chris Parker on guitar, Jason Rafalak on bass, Joe Sheehan on keys, PJ Roduta on percussion, and Ryan Socrates on drums. All are versatile Pittsburgh-based musicians, having performed jazz, classical, hip-hop, pop, singer-songwriter, and world music gigs. The group has performed at the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the African Arts in the Park Festival, at James St. Gastropub and Speakeasy, Club Cafe, Thunderbird Cafe, and at Duquesne University.

Jeanette Berry and the Soul Nerds

In 2008, two University of the Arts alumni, Jeanette and Ian Rafalak, came together to start playing and writing music. They both shared a love for soul, r&b, funk, jazz and reggae-which would show in the songs produced. After writing 4 or 5 songs, Jeanette came back to Ian with the skeleton’s for what would be “Peace, Love and Music”, Jeanette Berry and the Soul Nerds FIRST EP. This EP didn’t include all the Soul Nerds just yet, but did include Anwar Marshall, Ian Rafalak and some other talented Philly area musicians (Dan Paul on keys, Chris Aschman on Trumpet, Joe Truglio on Percussion). Fun Fact, one of the tracks off of that ep, (Love Stomped) was featured on Vh1’s, “Single Ladies” their first season. And one afternoon in Ian’s South Philly house living room, Jeanette Berry and the Soul Nerds was born. The group has gone through some changes in members, and right now we’ve got Ian Rafalak on Bass and Guitar, Ian Brick on Guitar, Dave Mattock on Keys, Anwar Marshall on drums, Elle Morris on Background Vocals and Andre Webb on Background Vocals, with Jeanette holding down the front. Surrounded by such an amazing group, Jeanette is looking forward to bringing the new album to life to a city near you this summer and fall! The new album, “Allegiance to Love” will be out this summer and contains all original songs, written by Jeanette and arranged and performed by Jeanette and the Soul Nerds. The recording was done in Converse Rubber Tracks studio in BK and Milkboy Studio’s in Philly.
The Soul Nerds have played all up and down the east coast in shows ranging from intimate room and house shows to lounges and bars and top notch music venues in NYC. To stay up to date with the happenings of the band, and the unveiling of their website and release of their album, go ‘Like’ them on Facebook and follow Jeanette on instagram and Twitter- @jb_soulnerd

Shad Ali

Shad Ali began writing creatively at age 9. Experimenting with poetry in personal
journal entries, he found it to be a self-rewarding form of expression. Persisting to work
on this hobby, his writing has become recognized as a developing talent.

A passion for music has passed through Shad’s family tree. His father, an avid fan
of jazz, can be credited for Shad’s soft spoken delivery of lyrics and his knack for an
often jazzy selection of hip-hop instrumentals. His dedication to the pen and notepad
expanded upon being introduced by an older sibling to many of the genres most praised
lyricists. It was at this time, during his teenage years, that Shad’s curiosity guided him
as a student of lyricism. He began researching the structure and usage of the words
and stories told by varying artists.

Shad is intrinsically inspired by real life occurrences, happenings in the world, his
dealings with women, successes, failures, regrets, friendship, love, his family life, and
his neighborhood - Wilkinsburg. Beyond music, Shad enjoys entertaining audiences by
performing improvisational comedy. Other hobbies include sketching and challenging
opponents on the basketball court.
