Event Description

A Seat at the Table, Your Place in the Park is a celebration of community, local history, and the first-year harvest of the From Slavery to Freedom Garden!

The From Slavery to Freedom Garden, located at the Frick Environmental Center, was planted in partnership with the Heinz History Center to promote understanding of the African diaspora. The garden, an extension of the From Slavery to Freedom exhibit at the History Center, showcases foraged plants that were used for food and medicinal purposes by freedom seekers, as well as vegetables used in home gardens. Read more here.

Pack a lunch (or find great eats on-site!) and join us for a public celebration that includes:

  • The perfect picnic spot. Grab a seat at one of our picnic tables or bring a blanket of your own.

  • Live, local music by jazz ensemble Lee Robinson and ISKA and Reggae band Truth and Rites

  • Leon's Caribbean Restaurant  and Tropical Fire food trucks.

  • Free family activities and hikes with Parks Conservancy educators and our partners at the Heinz History Center.
